Srimadh Bagawatham - Troubles of kali Yugam

Continued On:

Troubles of kali Yugam:
A congregation of sages on the bank of River Ganges was worried about Kali Yugam.
‘The life span of people will be very less in kali Yugam. People who lived for thousands of years in Krita yugam will not even live to be 100 in Kali Yugam. They will not use their intellect in God realization. Running after material pursuit they will become mean minded!’
At that time they saw Sage Naradar. They were surprised to see worry lines on Sage Naradar’s forehead. As Sage Naradar is always contemplating upon the Lord he never worries about anything; thus, the sages were surprised to see the look of concern on Sage Naradar’s face.
Upon enquiry, Sage Naradar replied. ‘I have travelled far and wide and even to the eight self- manifest kshetrams of Vanamamalai, SriRangam, Tirumala, Badari, Prayagam, Pushkaram, Naimisaranyam,, and Sri Mushnam but even in these places I see the ill effect of Kali. I didn’t find dharmam, cleanliness, satyam or compassion anywhere!’
‘If kali is so bad then how can people endure this age?’
‘It is not kali Yugam which is bad,’ replied sage Naradar. ‘ It takes 10,000 years to succeed in obtaining God Realization in Krita Yugam, 100 years in Treta Yugam ,1 year in Dwapara Yugam but only 1 day in Kali Yugam!’
Sage Veda Vyasar declared Kali as the best amongst the 4 ages, women as being better than men and Sudras the best of the 4 varnas. This is because it is very easy to obtain the Lord’s divine feet by putting in least effort in Kali Yugam. The hard to follow practices and shastras are not prescribed for women but they reach moksham even before the men by following their simple duties. Similarly Sudras reach moksham very easily even when they don’t have to spend time studying the Vedas and following the difficult Svadhyaya prescribed for the other castes.
It is very easy to live in Kali Yugam if we know the things which must be avoided.
We will examine the things to be avoided in order to survive the age of kali in my next post.
