Caste System continued

 contd from: http://thoughtsonsanathanadharma.blogspot.ca/2012/01/caste-system-continued.html

To have obtained a good birth in a good society in this life should not be misused as no one knows how their next life could be. People believed that a person might be a scholar in the present birth but could be born even as a worm in the next birth. People followed the laws laid out for their society and concentrated on spiritual quest so as to avoid taking birth as lower life forms in their next birth or to avoid re-incarnation completely. People believed in the law of karma; they tried to avoid bad karma and concentrated on accumulating good karma by helping people in need. The belief in the karmic wheel kept people from misusing their position in society. Everyone believed in upholding truth .The Vedic Society was like a machine and every caste was an integral part of the machine. Each member had to full fill the duties assigned to them. They worked in unison so that the society as a whole could function properly. The importance of each member was recognized. It was division of labor and was not established to discriminate between people. To belong to a caste, the person had to be properly trained. The Kshatriyas were the warrior class. They had a natural aptitude in warfare. They were brave and courageous people. Their main duty was to protect their country and citizens from invasions. The King and the ministry were responsible for upholding the justice system. They passed laws to prevent and lower crime rate in the society. The Brahmins were people who showed a natural aptitude for higher learning and public service. They were the pundits, engineers, lawyers & doctors. They served people without expecting a fee. They were dedicated to public service and were not allowed to accumulate wealth. As the Brahmins served people without asking for payment, the Kshatriyas & the Vaisyas took care of them through endowments. It is often criticized that the Brahmin priests control the temples. The temples have to be in the hand of the Brahmin priests as they are the only ones who are qualified to take care of the temple administrations as well as perform other Vedic rituals in the temples. This is similar to hospitals being under the control of doctors, law offices under lawyers etc. Also, a Church is under the control of a Christian priest, a mosque under a imam; why do we criticize only Brahmin priests?

to be continued.
