The caste system was incorporated to increase professional proficiency. It helped to reduce competition. People worked in a certain profession because it was their duty. They did not work to earn more money or to improve their status. They believed that it was their duty to do an excellent job without expecting any reward. Each person’s job was protected. For instance in the present society we have certified plumbers, electricians, engineers & doctors; similarly, the ancient people belonging to the Vedic culture had to pass rigorous training to practice the profession of their caste. We know that a certified plumber is not allowed to practice engineering or medicine similarly a Vaisyas or a Sudra was prevented from practicing the profession of a Brahmin and vice versa. If they wanted to become a Brahmin, they had to get the proper training and become qualified.
