Caste System:
The much criticised caste system was incorporated to maintain order in the society and it was built on the laws of karma & dharma. The caste system was based on profession. It was identical to the feudal system that prevailed in Europe. Even though society was divided into castes, in ancient times everyone was treated equally. The core principle of the religion is to believe in the existence of achit, jeeva atma & paramatma. We are the Jeeva atmas or the souls & we exist in different bodies which is achit in nature. From the point of view of religion every living being is equal. A man is equal to a mosquito as they are both jeeva atmas; but, the differentiation arises because one jeeva atma resides in the body of a man and the other in the body of a mosquito. There are no differences between the two jeeva atmas itself. With this basic tenet, there is no room for discrimination. The belief in re-incarnation also prevents discrimination to some extent.
