Thirupavai Pasuram 29

NamPerumal SriRangam

In the previous pasuram, Perumal agreed to give the gopi girls everything they asked for.
Nachiar said, ‘we have come to you to worship you! We are all young girls who are pampered by our parents at home. We don’t even have to get up very early in the morning as our parents don’t expect us to do chores. Yet, we got up at a very early hour, took a cold dip even when the weather is chilly and came to see you.’
‘I have granted your wish by giving you everything you asked for,’ said Perumal.
‘We praised your golden lotus feet. Your feet are like a pair of lotus blooms made out of gold as the golden lotus blooms never wilt nor do they corrode but your feet also have the softness and fragrance present in the red lotus blooms found in ponds, ‘said Nachiar and she continued, ‘ We seek only your feet! We do not want anything else including the things which we asked earlier. Our earlier request was just a ruse to get our real wish fulfilled! You have incarnated amongst the gopas. The dharmam of gopas does not allow them to eat food without feeding their cattle. Hence grant us the kaimkaryam we request from you.’

‘What kind of kaimkaryam do you need?’
‘We will do any kaimkaryam. Just give us something to do which pleases you. Point the task to us and ask us to complete it. Isn’t this what Lakshmanar asked of you when you asked him to build a Ashram? Lakshmanar asked you to point at the spot where you wanted the Ashram built per your wish. We will do any task you ask us to do. No task is lowly or small for us. From dusting your shoes to sweeping your abode, we are ready to do all tasks to please you. We didn’t come to ask for parai’
‘You have been singing “grant us parai” all this while. If you didn’t want parai why did you sing so?’
‘Our parai is you! We want only you!’
On Nachiar Thirumozhi, Nachiar uses kutreval to show that she wants to hug Perumal and always stay close by Him. Thus , by Kutreval Nachiar asking to wed Perumal.
‘It is your wish to save us. We don’t have as many births as you since once you grant us Moksham we go to Sri Vaikuntham but you keep incarnating to save more jeevatmas. Please make sure that you make us do only those things which please you. Do not let our karmas take over and spur us to do things which cause you displeasure.
This pasuram must be chanted when we go to temples and in our pooja.
